Spring and Early Summer Faves

Whew, it’s been quite a while since I’ve posted about things I’ve been loving… and I’ve been loving so many things lately! Also, I want to make it clear that even though summer weather in Florida starts in mid-april, I don’t consider it summer until after Memorial Day. So, I’m technically not THAT late getting this list out. Right? RIGHT?!

Villa Alena Peach Mascato and Peach from Trader Joe’s – This is basically fizzy alcoholic peach juice and I’m obsessed with it.

Tic Tac Freshmints – These have come in and out of my life since middle school- and right now, they’re definitely in!

Trader Joe’s Rose Water Facial Toner – Hi, I’ll take one of every rose item you have. I love this stuff! It’s light, refreshing, and less expensive than the rose water I used to buy on amazon.

Lilacism by Essie – I’ve been so obsessed with this bright-but-still-light purple polish. I’ve probably reached for this color 6-7 times in the last few months. It’s the perfect shade for spring and summer.

Broad City – I watched season 1-3 in about 5 days. Broad City is a less serious, more enjoyable version of HBO’s Girls. It’s 2 best friends living in New York City being outrageous. Season 1-4 is currently streaming on Hulu.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine – It’s taken a few years, but we’ve finally started watching this NYC cop sitcom in April! Andy Samberg is hilarious, but so are all the minor characters as well. The best part is that there are sooooo many available episodes, so it’s a great show to binge. This one is also available on Hulu.

Isle of Dogs – I love Wes Anderson’s storytelling and visual aesthetic, so I was already expecting to love this movie, but it really blew me away. Isle of Dogs is charming, funny, and packed with Hollywood’s best (voices).

Criminology Podcast Season 2 – If you’re not into true crime, this podcast may not be for you. Season 2 of criminology is all about the golden state killer, who has also been dubbed the East Area Rapist and the Visalia Ransacker. The golden state killer terrorized northern California throughout the 70’s and 80’s. Amazingly, through the power of DNA technology, he was caught just weeks ago!

Guys, I know you’ve all been wondering what I’ve been obsessed with lately… So, here it is!!Rose Water
I’ve talked about rose water on here previously, but I’m still super obsessed. Why did it take me so long to get on the rose water train?! I feel like a luxurious queen or something when I spray my face with rose water. I use it after I wash my face and before I moisturize.

Orange + Bergamot oil
Everyone and their mother is on the essential oil bandwagon! They can be used for cleaning, grooming, to promote health, OR to make your house smell good! These two essential oils smell great! I’ve been really into defusing them!

Pumpkins
Tis’ the season, right? This October we bought a selection of pumpkins and I’ve been obsessed with them. I LOVE the heirloom pink, gray, and green pumpkins the best! We bought our pumpkins from KC’s Produce and Glad Tidings Church.

Black Cat
I talked about this on instagram, but if you haven’t heard, Black was sick for a few weeks in August. He had 2 extended stays at our local vet’s office and one trip to the small animal emergency room in Gainesville. He got sick again in September, and after a week stay in the cat hospital, he ended up having surgery. Black Cat is home and recovering well! If you’re local and looking for a great vet, we highly recommend Dr. Hagler at Columbia Animal Hospital! He and his staff took such wonderful care of Black Cat!

Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
This month’s book club pick has been great! Station Eleven follows 3 characters after a devastating flu plague hits America. It’s an interesting and easy read. I highly recommend it!

Good Christian Fun Podcast
This podcast is what I’ve been waiting for. Hosts, Kevin and Caroline along with a different guest each week, discuss various aspects of Christian pop culture. It’s super hilarious and only about 10% offensive. If you were a youth group queen like myself, I suggest you give this one a listen. I super suggest you listen to the Hell House episode because one of my favorite humans, MeLissa, was the guest!

Stranger Things Season 2
Whew, guys. Netflix is really kicking it out of the park with some of their original series. Ray and I both loved season 1, season 2 did not disappoint! I feel like everyone in America has seen and loved Stranger Things, so I don’t think I need to explain the premise… but if you haven’t, give it a chance! It’s nostalgic, smart, funny, a little scary, and has a lot of heart.

Mindhunters
Mindhunters is a new netflix original that follows FBI agents in the 70’s on the path of profiling serial killers. Truthfully, this show started off a little slow and it didn’t follow the format I was expecting… but it was fascinating. The show is based off the book of the same title authored real-life FBI agent, John Douglas.

June 2017 Favorites:Growing cacti – Early this year we moved most of our cacti and succulents outdoors. They just didn’t seem to be getting enough light in our sunroom. Guys, they’ve been flourishing! Several have had beautiful blooms over the last month.

Rainy Days – the beginning of June was extra rainy this year, which lead to a few slightly cooler days and greener grass.

Staying Home – Our spring was filled with trips and events, which were all wonderful… but in June we actually had several weekends in a row at home. We were able to sleep in, recover from the work week, get chores done, and be overall lazy. It’s been very relaxing!

The Jeep – Guys, we were a one car family for a very long time. We made it work, but it wasn’t always easy. Finally, this month, we purchased a second vehicle. We took our time, saved money, did research, and ended up buying a new-to-us (but with very low miles) Jeep Cherokee!

Lavender and mauve nail polish – These two colors, in various shades, have been my jam!

T-shirt dresses – Lately I’ve been LOVING easy casual tshirt dresses. I can dress them up for work or down for the weekends. They’re so comfortable and cute! My favorites are the jersey swing dress from old navy (currently on sale) and the lularoe carley (here’s a link to my fave consultant).

Lemon Lara Bars – For the month of June, I was on a restrictive eating plan (very similar to the Whole30) to try and relieve some fibromyalgia pain I’ve been experiencing. There weren’t a lot of “grab and go” type foods I could eat, BUT I could have Lara Bars! Lemon is my favorite flavor and apple pie comes in close second.

Coconut Milk – I’ve been drinking coconut milk with my coffee lately and really loving it. It’s very summery!

Riverdale – Ray turned Riverdale on a few weeks ago while we were eating dinner, and after one episode we were both hooked! Riverdale is based off the Archie comics, but it’s not just apple pie and boy scouts. Riverdale takes a slightly darker approach to the beloved Archie characters. It’s awesome and you should definitely check it out.

Mommy, Dead and Dearest – Mommy, Dead and Dearest is an HBO documentary featuring Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who killed her mother after living her life being the subject of her mother’s Munchausen by Proxy. I love true crime and this case is so bizarre and interesting.

The Dollop – I’m forever on the search for a good podcast. The Dollop is a podcast focusing on hilarious stories though out America’s history.

Here are a few things i loved in January 2017!

So Delicious Coconut Creamer – I decided to try out some healthier coffee creamers this year. I mean, there’s still sugar in this creamer, but a lot less weird-o chemicals. The french vanilla and slight coconut flavor is perfect!
Blood Oranges – A constant winter favorite for me! I’m so #blessed to live in Florida where the citrus is abundant and delicious. IF you’ve never had a blood orange, they taste like a cross between an orange and a cherry.
Bunny Slippers – I’m a slipper girl. We live in an old house with wood floors and in the winter, slippers save my life! Ray bought these for me for Christmas and I love them!
Bergamont Waters Candle from B&BW – My mom gifted me this candle for Christmas and it’s my new favorite!
Copper Bathroom Sink Faucet – Isn’t this beautiful? We found this perfect copper faucet on Amazon that goes perfectly in our downstairs bathroom. I have a few posts in the works discussing some of our recent and future home renovations.

My favorite Murder – MFM is my new favorite podcast! 2 female comedians talking about murder and true crime! It’s so good and there are 50+ episode to binge on!
Up and Vanished – Another favorite true crime podcast. Up and Vanished focuses on a cold case of a missing woman out of Ocilla, GA. It’s very southern, very small-town, very mysterious!

The OA – This Netflix original is hard to explain, but it it’s excellent. A young woman is found after being missing for years under very mysterious circumstances.

September & October 2016 Favorites

Taking a moment today to share a few things I’ve been loving recently.
Rtic water bottle (and the generic Walmart version as well)Taking a – A few months ago Ray mentioned that he would probably drink more water if he had a cup that would keep it cold. I immediately ordered him an Rtic cup and he’s used it every day since it arrived. I bought one for myself a few weeks later! These cups are great!

Fisherman’s Friend lozenges – Ray and I spent half of September and October sick with colds, which was a total bummer. We’ve both found that Fisherman’s Friend lozenges are the best (and super cheap)!! Warning – They taste entirely like menthol, so for some people they can be very intense.

Leopard shoes– A true essential in my autumn wardrobe!

Lularoe black leggings – I was skeptical about Lularoe (being a multi-level marketing type company), but I was in desperate need of new black leggings, and decided to give them a try. These leggings are truly wonderful. They’re soft, stretchy, opaque, and extremely comfortable!

Television
Luke Cage – Excellent! Because Ray is a nerd extraordinaire, we’re big into the Marvel Universe Netflix original shows. Jessica Jones is my favorite, but Luke Cage is a close second. Luke Cage is a man with super strength + impenetrable skin caused by a sabotaged experiment while he was wrongfully imprisoned.

Westworld – HBO’s Westworld is about a futuristic western-themed amusement park of the same name, occupied by androids referred to as “hosts”. Westworld caters to high-paying visitors who come to experience the park, without fear of retaliation from the hosts. IE – You can shoot an android with no consequences. The show is based off a Michael Crichton novel. It’s soooooooo good!

Seinfeld – Ray and I have been watching through Seinfeld for the past few months. I remember watching episodes here and there in the 90’s, but this is the first time either of us have watched through the seasons. It’s hilarious to see how many issues on Seinfeld are almost completely irrelevant 20 years later (ie- long distance phone calls, writing checks, etc.)

Podcasts:
I’ve been really into true crime podcast lately and these are two I’ve been especially enjoying.

Criminal – A new crime or crime-related topic is discussed in each episode. This podcast is very well researched and the episodes cover a multitude of topics.

In The Dark – In The Dark is a podcast that explores a Minnesota abduction that took place in 1989 and was only recently solved.

Truthfully, the last 2 months have been extremely busy, stressful, and overwhelming for me. If I wasn’t working or sleeping (or being sick) I was probably zoning out on Netflix. Hoping the rest of the year is a little more fun and relaxing!
