Root Beer Review : Stewart’s

stewarts 1Allison’s Review:
Creaminess: 4 – On the verge of creaminess perfection.
Carbonation: 3
Flavor: 3 – Stewart’s actually has a great classic root beer flavor, but there is nothing unique about it. Nothing that stands out.
Packaging: 2.5 – They used a glass bottle, which is always nice. However, the graphics are dated and not in a cool way.
Overall Experience: 3.5 – Stewart’s is a pretty good, classic tasting root beer. No complaints!stewarts 3

Ray’s Review:
Creaminess: 2.5 – Not overly creamy. But a good blend of creaminess to accompany the flavor and carbonation.
Carbonation: 4 – It has a good amount of carbonation, and works well with the flavor
Flavor: 3.5 – Solid root beer flavor. Nothing amazing or weird or even very different. But still a good flavor.
Packaging: 3.5 – Brown glass bottle, twist off top, simple logo and classic root beer graphic
Overall Experience: 4 One of the better, plain ole root beers I’ve had. No surprises, but sometimes that’s nice.stewarts

Root Beer Review : The Pop Shoppe

pop shop 2Allison’s Review:
Creaminess – 3
I would say there was an average amount of creaminess to this one.
Carbonation – 2.5
It wasn’t bad, but I personally prefer more carbonation to my root beer.
Flavor – 2
This one seemed to be lacking on the root flavor. The sweetness level was great and I could even taste hints of caramel, but there was no real punch to it. The after taste wasn’t my favorite either. It had a chemical flavor and reminded me of how cleaning products smell. Gross, right?
Packaging – 4.5
I loved the packaging! Simple, cute and I was definitely drawn to it… However, I think spelling shop like “shoppe” is pretty pretentious.
Overall Experience – 2.5
I will probably not ever buy this again. That cleaning product flavor just turned me off. No Thanks!pop shop

Ray’s Review:
Creaminess – 2
It’s an ok creaminess. That’s not the thing I notice much about it.
Carbonation – 4
The carbonation is great. It doesn’t taste flat. It has the sharp fizz you want from a root beer
Flavor – 2
I don’t love the flavor at all. I prefer a creamy smooth root beer. This one has a sour tinge to it, that I’m not a fan of. The after taste of this one isn’t great either. Something I don’t remember ever having a problem with in a root beer before
Packaging – 3
The packaging is pretty good. You have a simple vintage inspiredglass bottle, which is cute and appealing. They have their little happy frothing mug on the front… It’s simple but pretty good.
Experience – 2.5
Overall I wasn’t impressed by this root beer. I don’t think I can say it’s the worst I’ve ever had. But it’s just not very good. If I was given the option I probably wouldn’t have this one again.

Root beer – IBC

IBCAllison’s Review:
Creaminess –  2.5
Not bad, I would say it was average.
Flavor – 3
Slightly spicier than most other brands with a nice root flavor. Classic and predictable.
Carbonation- 4.5
The perfect amount of carbonation. I just wish it didn’t make me burp every 3 seconds…
Packaging- 1.5
Well, it’s pretty boring. I’m not drawn to it at all
Experience- 3
This is the root beer I grew up drinking so the flavor is nostalgic for me.IBC 2

Ray’s Review:
Creaminess –  3.5
This is a decently creamy root beer.
Carbonation – 3.5
The carbonation isn’t too much and isn’t too little. It’s an definite parts of its flavor
Flavor – 3.5
I mean this is an IBC root beer. It’s flavor to me is just a very classic root beer flavor. A nice amount of creaminess and carbonation and normal root beer flavor. There are really no surprises here. But that’s not really a bad thing. This is a recognizable and reliable root beer
Packaging – 3
packaging is a simple brown embossed glass bottle. It’s simple but effective
Experience – 3.5
The overall experience isn’t really anything special. But very reliable. This is a simple no frills good root beer.

How do you feel about IBC?

Year of Root Beer – Boylan Bottle co

Boylan Root Beer, another brand neither of us had tried before.

Allison’s Review:
creaminess – 2.5
Eh, average. Nothing special.
flavor – 3.5
A lighter more soda taste. Actually, it tastes like a cross between a cream soda and a root beer. I really enjoy it, however I think there should be more of a root flavor, as it is root beer.
carbonation – 2.5
More carbonation than I would prefer. Burp city, you guys.
packaging- 3.5
The packaging design is simple and to the point. It looks old,  which seems to be the trend most brands are going for. The bottle itself is a good shape and has a nice lip to it.
overall – 3
I liked this one and I think I would definitely repurchase it.

Ray’s Review:
Creaminess – 2.5
This one doesn’t seem like creaminess was something they were concerned with. There is a small bit of creaminess to the root beer but nothing to write home about.
Carbonation – 2.5
This one seems to be a little over carbonated to me. Immediately after starting to sip on it, I had those carbonation burps.
Flavor – 3.5
This is one that seems to have a unique flavor to it. It’s strong on the mint flavoring, something I never really noticed in root beers until we started doing these reviews. I don’t know if that’s something I’ve just missed all these years, or we’ve just happened to find minty root beers. This one is made with cane sugar, which to me usually has a bad after taste. I don’t get as much of that from this root beer. The flavor to this one seems to be a little more complex than your average root beer. There are a few other flavored that I can’t place. But over all it a pretty enjoyable flavor.
Packaging – 4
I’m into the packaging. Simple two color logo on a brown bottle. Vintage inspired, because they boast about being from 1891 so they seem to be appealing to that.
Experience – 3
I neither loved nor hated this root beer. The flavor was a little unique but the over carbonation made it not one of my favorites.
