Growing up, my mom would always make apple butter during the holidays… and believe me, it was always delicious. Today I’m sharing her recipe… and it’s kind of a big deal because I like to keep special recipes like this all to myself. Be proud!
For this recipe you’ll need about 25 ounces of unsweetened apple sauce (homemade or store bought is fine), 1/2 cup sugar, 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, 1/4 tsp. allspice, 1/8 tsp. ginger and 1/8 tsp. ground clove (do not use whole clove unless you plan on grating it with a microplane).
Mix all the ingredients together, throw it in a pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and let it simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes. Take this time to enjoy the ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE Christmas-y scent. Seriously, simmering apple butter is one of the best smells in the whole world. Afterward, let it cool. If you want, you can blend it for a few seconds in a blender to give it a smoother texture. I, personally, do not do this, as I prefer the thicker applesauce-like texture. Spread it on biscuits, toast, cinnamon bread, etc. I promise this will not disappoint. What are some of your favorite holiday recipes?
